Slay the Living Room! The Perfect Thanksgiving Outfit
It’s that time of year babes; we are in the home stretch of the year (and the decade!) and we’re rushing towards Christmas. Now, I am a huge fan of Christmas; I love all the music, the presents, time with family, etc. But what is it with everybody dissing Thanksgiving?! It’s a day to eat, drink and be merry with your friends and family. It’s also a time to walk what my granny used to call the “living room runway.” You can serve a fall slay with the perfect thanksgiving outfit.
The Perfect Comfy & Chic Thanksgiving Outfit
For this year’s thanksgiving, I actually pre-tested my outfit back in early October. This two-piece co-ord from Target’s A New Day collection was everywhere earlier this fall, and sold out multiple times in all colours. I just happened to snap mine up and have worn it multiple times since then. The skirt and sweater are a warm, heavy knit that can be worn separately as well. Here’s why I am wearing this co-ord to Thanksgiving:
- It’s VERY stretchy. When you’re staring down my dad’s 10-lb deep-fried southern turkey, the last thing you want is unforgiving fabrics. So I always choose something with stretch
- It’s a little over-sized. Again, sis, I’m not trying to be out here looking like a stuffed sausage (lol); I want to enjoy my day, ok? This set runs big, so a straight sized XL/XXL can easily fit up to a US size 22
- You can dress it up or down. DO you want to be the bougie cousin or the chill cousin? It’s totally up to you with a set like this. I went the chic route with a customized denim jacket from Evri (thanks Kohl’s!), my fall fashion holy grail Gucci loafers and a felt fedora-style hat from Target. It’s not anything too formal, but you can be sure, I will serving looks while my mum is serving her world-famous mac n’ cheese
I think a co-ord set is such an easy way to easily look pulled together with literally NO effort. The ribbed material here really punches it up and makes it even more fall chic. You can also easily zhuzh up a co-ord with a few accessories (like my hat and loafers) or just keep it completely casual.
One LAST tip from me – leave the compression garments at home! I am always a fan of shapewear, I wear it religiously. However, this may be one of the few times where you won’t see me in any sort of shapewear, not even light compression underpants. Nothing. Nada. I want to be as comfortable as possible to eat all the amazing food.
BUT, if my casual look isn’t your jam this holiday, I got you! I partnered with three of my favourite bloggers to share four different ways to slay turkey day!
Taelor’s Thanksgiving Outfit: Flirty and Fun Dress with a Bold Print
I was expecting an absolute slay from Taelor from Stylish Sista; and honey she did NOT disappoint! The vibrant hues of her wrap dress compliment her gorgeous sing perfectly. Also, the wrap dress is the prefect silhouette for Thanksgiving; it’s not tight on the tummy but still looks chic and pulled together. I’m obsessed.

Thanksgiving is almost here! Here’s what I’m planning to wear and here’s why. 1️⃣ It’s cute and the pattern says “Thanksgiving floral” to me 😍 2️⃣ With a house full of family members I’m trying to wear something that makes me feel confident 👏🏿 3️⃣ It’s a comfy wrap dress! Which means that it cinches me at my waist and not my stomach so I can THROWDOWN on my Mudear’s Mac and cheese (my fav) 🧀♥️💁🏿♀️😂 • Some of my favs also have their outfits picked out! Check out my girls @gessflyy, @aneutrallife and @personalbravery to see what they are wearing to slay on turkey day! 🦃💃🏾 • Do you know what you are wearing yet?! • 📷: @mynamese
Gess’s Downtown Cool Thanksgiving Look: Edgy, but Make it Fashion
I am a huge fan of Gess, and not just because we almost have the same name. Her style is always so cool and edgy. She reminds me of what I think the Lower East Side would dress like if it were a person (does that make sense? LOL). Gess went all black with pop of wine for her thanksgiving outfit. She’s def serving me: “cool cousin who moved to the big city and works in fashion” vibes and I’m jelly! LOL
Princess Goes Downtown and Hip for Thanksgiving: And we Love it
I met Princess from Personal Bravery earlier this year when I attended The Curvy Fashionsta’s annual event in Atlanta. Her style? Honey, she’s in another league! So cool, so confident, so chic and just so good. She made her denim and sweatshirt combo ten times cooler with the addition of a colourful turban and platform heels.

Tis’ the season to…eat until we fall into a four-hour coma and then wake up and eat some more (lol). That doesn’t mean you can’t eat and nap in fashion, honey.
