In every polytheistic culture, there is a Deity associated with the passage of life. Unlike the Christian persuasion, many of these deities aren’t feared, but instead revered and seen as more than the symbol of something ending.

Take Yama, the Ancient Hindu God of death, dharma and the underworld. His was a prominent role in ancient hindiusm.
⠀
Or the Ancient God of the underworld, Anubis. He wore Black not because it signified death, but because it signified regeneration and the water of the Nile.
⠀
Or one of my personal favourites, Mictēcacihuātl, the Lady of the Dead. This ancient Aztec deity was the queen of the underworld, and a primary God. She swallowed stars to allow a new day and her powers form the basis for El Día de los Muertos (Nov 1).

I am actually not a huge fan of Halloween (if you caught my stories earlier this week - I hate pumpkins lol) but I couldn’t resist paying homage to a misunderstood, but very normal part of human life. Even if it is a bit spooky 🕷
