Cheap Luxury…? Well, Kind Of…
*Thanks so much to REEL for sponsoring today’s post!
In case you haven’t noticed, “I am a fan of investment pieces.” I have been collecting and wearing luxury items since my very first Burberry backpack at 14-years old. I still remember the thrill of going into the Burberry shop in Chatham with my mum and handing the cashier £189 (which was a LOT, since the pound was almost double the dollar when I lived in the UK) for a cute little backpack. It was actually a golf bag, but I didn’t care! I still wear it to this day, and it kick-started my love of all things luxury.
Over the years, I have learned that while I may love luxury, my wallet does not. Rather than allow myself to go into debt over a handbag or a shoe, I have cultivated a few ways to get the MOST bang for my buck.
Five Ways YOU Can Afford Luxury on a Budget
So how can I afford luxury on a budget? There are a few ways!
Save for it with Reel! Ok, guys, this is a new one that I am excited to introduce to you. Reel is a guilt-free shopping platform that helps you save up for the items you love. I personally love Reel’s mission to help shoppers avoid unnecessary debt for their fashion (scroll down to get my FULL Reel review and a coupon code!).
Check re-sale and second hand websites: Online luxury consignment shops like Tradesy and TheRealReal have become a super popular way to afford luxury items. I personally love Tradesy, because its easy to track items in my size and from my favourite designers. These websites also offer the ability to shop around for the best price and condition, since so many people are trying to sell the same items.
Believe it or not, Instagram has some great consignment sellers: I actually found one of my favourite consignment shops on Instagram by searching the hashtag #LuxuryConsignment. There are a few other hashtags you can search to find great, independent consignment sellers (such as #luxuryresale, #consignmentshop and #resaleboutique, etc.). A word of caution: make sure to do your research on independent sellers; read reviews, comments, everything! Don’t get scammed!
Visit your local consignment shops (and regular thrift stores!): Almost every town/city in the world has at least ONE thrift store. Surprisingly, many of them are treasure troves for vintage luxury. Some Goodwill’s even have special boutiques where they store high-end designer labels. Again, be discerning and cautious – if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is.
Don’t sleep on discount stores: Part of the joy of shopping (for me) is the hunt; so discount retailers like Ross and TJ Maxx are super fun for me. And they have some good finds! The TJ Maxx near me was recently selling Gucci and Tom Ford sunglasses at a 60% discount. Yes girl, a 60% discount. Depending on what area you shop in, you can find some amazing stuff!
